Refusing Cancellation Notice & Blocking Move to Other Providers
SUMMARY As far as I'm aware what I've experienced is contrary to law. I tried to give notice of my intention to end two of my expiring cell phone contracts. Vodacom refused to proceed unless I discuss why and made it clear that they would not transfer my number to a new provider and ultimately refused to accept telephonic notice of intention to cancel. After 40 minutes on the phone trying to action this simple request, they also refused to provide any reference to track the request that they had refused. I do know the time of my call 10:29, 14 March-18 and the operator name was Siyabonga. DETAILS: At 10:23 today I tried to give notice of my intention to cancel/ end two of my cell phone contracts which expire in 13 May-18. I was informed that I must do this telephonically and was put through to ********** to do this. First, the operator refused to proceed unless I discussed why. I relented and discussed - I wanted to change providers, I even disclosed costs e.t.c. After attempting to offer more expensive alternatives which I refused, I made it clear I had made my decision and would like my request actioned without further discussion. The operator then asserted that I would not be able move my existing number to a new provider unless I remained active with Vodacom for 3 months after the end of my contract as this was Vodacom's business practice. The operator then refused to accept my notice to cancel, stating that I only qualify to give notice on 13 April-18 as this was 30 days prior to the end of my contract and that they would not accept any notice before this.
