refusal to repair device

i have an lg g3 mobile phone, still under warranty, i took my phone to canal walk vodacom customercare as my earphone 3.5mm jack on my device is faulty. they refused to fix it, claiming it was water damaged and apparently the cost of replacing the earphone jack would surpass the price of the actual phone itself.
