Refusal to cancel expired contracts

After months of trying to get Vodacom to cancel contracts I can no longer afford, Vodacom continues to charge me every month. I have been told that my complaint has been "escalated" but months later I have still heard nothing, except for their accounts department constantly calling me and demanding money I can't pay. I have told them repeatedly that I am willing to pay the arrears amount that was outstanding when I tried to cancel my contracts, but I was told that I am not allowed to cancel if there is arrears. So essentially, I said I can't afford my contracts and they have expired. Please convert to Pay as you go and I will pay the arrears. Vodacom said no and continues to charge monthly fees on contracts I have made it clear I cannot afford. Surely there is something to protect consumers from this? Surely this is some sort of ***** if I never agreed to extend the contracts and attempted to cancel them? Clearly, Vodacom does not care about the needs of its customers, as long as they can make money it doesn't matter if you destroy the financial stability of your customers. I explained why there was a sudden change in my financial position, but received no response. This is how they treat customers of 15+ years. And I had never, ever, not even once defaulted on a payment in all that time until i tried to cancel. In addition, they have cut off the phone that they are still charging me for (even though I am receiving no service they are charging me every single month for 4 contracts I have tried to cancel) and because I have been cut off I can't phone customer care. They don't seem to have an email address for customer care, so it is impossible to deal with the issue. This is the most shocking lack of service and it borders on immoral, given what they are doing to me financially.
