Red VIP - Change in Promises

I upgraded to the Vodacom Red VIP contract around a year ago. At that stage, the sales person told me that as a Red VIP customer, I would be allowed to get a new phone every 12 months, as opposed to every 24 months, which was the point that convinced me to upgrade.

With the launch of the iPhone 6s I gave Vodacom a call, to find out how the process works to get my new 12-month phone, as its not a standard contract upgrade.

I was then informed that my average spend needs to be R2250/Month to qualify, and that my current spend is R1950/Month.
Firstly, I was never informed of this hurdle-rate before.
Secondly, with the Red VIP ar R1999/Month, it is essentially impossible to increase your monthly spend, as calls and SMSs are unlimited. 5GB of data per month is also much more than I use. So save for making obscene amounts of international calls, or burning data for the sake of spending money, how is it possible to reach R2250/month?

Essentially, I'm upset that one of the main selling points for moving to the Red VIP contract turned out to be false advertising.
