R70 000.00 Bill for a Contract Phone that is put on hold!!

I lost my job due to the covid-19 pandemic and i had a contract in place with Vodacom. My employer is liquidated and we were obviously left in the cold, i notified Vodacom and they asked me to send them all the supporting documents which i did. I was then informed by their call center agents that they are going to make an arrangement for me to pay an amount of R6000.00 and then they will freeze my contract and move me to pre-paid. As an unemployed person i agreed to pay a monthly contribution of atleast R500 and some months i couldnt but when i could i did. I was then called in March 2022 sometime and was told that i would need to pay an amount of R2500 to avoid them taking (confiscating) my number, we scrabbled to find the money and made payment only for Vodacom to still take the number or discontinue the number. I am now told by Vodacom's lawyers that i owe Vodacom R70 000.00??? Where for the life of me is Vodacom getting these amounts from? I was already 2 years into my contract before i was retrenched and i dont remember buying a phone or contract worth more that R10 000... I was paying a min amount of R3 200.00 or more towards my contract monthly with Vodacom, so they need to find the monies and sort out this nonsense they claim. They are trying to make money out of the venerable and they must be exposed. I will not pay R70 000 for a phone as if i bought a car.
