R10 000 data charge out of thin air - no notifications

I use a 2GB wifi contract package that costs R150 p/m, and I seldom if ever exceed the data I'm allocated.

So it was a huge and nasty shock to recieve an SMS from Vodacom stating that they's detected unusual useage on my contract...to the tune of R10 100!

Given that I'd hardly used the wifi in some time, don't do any software updates on my machine at home and that my monthly spend is seldom above R150 , I called customer service to confirm if this was correct. The person on the other side seemed unsure - first telling me that I was R3000 over (not so bad but still nonsense) and then settling on R10 100. On constesting the bill I was told that I'd be contacted by their technicians within five days, who would see if there had been any mistakes/other issues on that line...of course, I never heard anything back.

I'm frankly disappointed that Vodacom a) doesn't get back to me when the issue concerns such a great deal of money. b) only thinks of sending out a warning when the costs hit R10 000 - I'd expect anything over a couple of hundred rands would be reason for alarm bells going off, but why leave it so late?

This isn's the first time this has happened with Vodacom - the previous incident saw me charged R1000 without notification of any sort. Needless to say, I'm reluctant to be hit for an amount that could buy me a new smartphone, cash.

I've been a customer of Vodacom for more than 12 years and, these incidents aside, have enjoyed good service. I would like to remain with your firm, but if this issue is not cleared up satisfactorily I'll be inclined to cancel both my data and phone contracts when the renewal period comes around at the end of the year.

Come on, Vodacom - you can resolve this.
