Purposeful attempt to prevent cancellations by clients

Trying to cancel a contract for my father, who has visited a physical Vodacom store three times to be told he can only cancel a contract over the phone, via ********** number. As a senior citizen, who is hard of hearing, he is unable to operate the phone. I tried to help him, but it took me 9 tries to eventually get the robo answering system to accept the number and transfer us. The operator then refused to help me, as he needed to talk to my father and ask him "security questions".

I eventually managed to battle my way to getting an email for the Bytes outsourced service, that Vodacom now uses to deflect all client queries since disabling their physical stores. I don't even know if it is the correct email, as the operator used a jumbled phonetic alphabet code to describe it: tshedza.ramavhale at bytes.co.za.

And apparently Vodacom no longer "subscribe" to the consumer protection ombudsman, just ICASA.

I will try to get a dispute reference number, and will then log my complaint with ICASA after the 14 days expire.

Cancellations are part of the business - my Dad has retired to a place with a fibre Internet connection, and no longer needs the Vodacom LTE modem. But basically he cannot cancel it. And has tried for months.

Vodacom effectively makes it impossible to cancel, even using a defective robo answering service, that drops the call and doesn't offer a operator supported service for people who cannot enter the number they are querying. That's pretty much acting like a pirate. Let's see how I go with cancelling this SIM.

They actually called me! Yay!! Sux that it had to get to this for us to get attention, but hey, obviously someone at VC is trying. Ok. Now just waiting for the cancellation email process to start. Holding thumbs... shifting rating to 3 in preparation.

Yes indeed,, cancellation has been done!

I am so grateful to Ashwin and team for completing this for my father. Pity it had to come to this, but kudos to the VC support guys for responding as fast as they did. Thank you, case closed.
