Price rip-off

I have been a loyal customer with Vodacom for over 10 years. Last week Friday I went to do my upgrade and chose to get the LG G5. ( was using the Samsung S5). I filled in and signed all the paperwork and then at the end the consultant opened the box of the phone and promptly told me that the LG G5 takes a nano sim and my current sim would have to be cut or I would have to do a sim swap. I asked what the costs would be and was told R60 odd to do the sim swap and wait for up to 48 hours for it to be connected (not possible when phone is used for work), or pay R148 to have the sim card cut. I said surely it can't cost that much!! She refused to budge and so I was left with no option but to have it cut (otherwise my new handset would be useless). It took her 30 seconds on a device similar to a stapler.

I find this a complete rip-off and money making scheme. Why can't this service not be passed on to the client as a free service for loyalty to the brand?? And maybe if the consultant had informed me before she opened the box and I had signed all the documents that I would need to have my sim cut My decision may have been very different!!

I also upgraded to a Smart S+ contract with 10gb once off. I was told this would be valid for 30 days and was to enable me to set up the phone with all the apps etc..,. On Sunday I then received an sms saying my upgrade will only take place on 30/09/2016. How does that help me when I need my phone to be functioning now!!

Louise Rubach
