My Vodacom cellular work number is ********** 017. I was ecstatic when the sales team's work cellphones were upgraded to Huawei P10 Lites because the dual SIM design meant I would no longer have carry two 'phones and could put my personal and work SIM cards into one cellphone.

Imagine my disappointment when the cellphone would not recognise the second SIM card. I went to my nearest Vodacom outlet and was told that Vodacom does not include dual cellphones in it's range and those that are physically capable of having two SIM cards installed simultaneousy have their software and/or hardware modified so that only one SIM card can work. I asked why, the Vodacom consultant didn't know.

I now ask you the same question, why does Vodacom not allow fully functional dual SIM cellphones? Before you answer, please note that I will not accept the following reason and I'll tell you why:

1) "We can't control what second SIM card is inserted into the unit. SIM cards from other providers might cause faults over which we have no control but would have to rectify under our warranty." My response: You can network lock the cellphone so that it will only work with Vodacom SIM cards. We know this to be possible as it has been done by yourselves many times before with many different models of 'phones.

2) "A user could put in another contract SIM late into the original contract and claim a further two year warranty." My response: Emphasise that the warranty runs from the day the initial SIM card is activated and can not be extended.

3) "It's logistically difficult to administrate." My response: What a crock! If Telkom can offer a fully functional dual SIM cellphone on their contracts and administer them, why can't you? Are you admitting defeat to a quasi-government service provider whose cellular division is FAR smaller than yours by conceding that they are more capable than you?

I await your response with interest. As this is my employer's contract, I have no control over it. However, when my unbroken personal Vodacom contract of more than twenty-two years (and the contracts of my other family members) come up for renewal shortly I will choose the service provider that takes cognisance of my needs and opinions. I hope that will be Vodacom.

Footnote: My bosss says that if this is not resolved, he will cancel the three contracts and take out new contracts with Telkom.
