Hello Peter I have been a vodacom client for years, never used any other network.
On Friday 17th May 2019 just before 17:00 I received an sms "stating that my number is being ported" I panicked and immediately tried to call Vodacom I dialed 135 all the options I had did not help me in anyhow and there's no option to speak to the consultant (which is an inconvenience) Eventually I got the 1082 number from a friend. And had to use my Airtime to call, what's sad is that their "port" department doesn't work after 17:00 and on weekends so said the call center agent. I was told to wait for Monday.
The agent said if they (Vodacom) open a ticket for me it will take 7days plus before its attended and another option is for me "Vodacom client" to go to MTN and ask them to help me.
At MTN they said I need to do a sim swap to claim back my number and it will take 3 months to port it back. Fortunately I went to a different store where they managed to reverse it. I use apps on the phone and loosing access to my mobile number would mean the porter can reset my pins/password and gain access to my bank accounts.
As a Vodacom client I don't expect to go seek help from MTN.
Service providers should be well aware that there's a "number porting" issue and put or train their stand by staff on how to handle such.
Do I really have to pay to get help from my provider (1082) because there's no alternative?
Why can't they add an option to speak to the consultant on 135 number?
I just don't understand why Vodacom doesn't want to take accountability on this...
Right now my accounts are still blocked because I don't know if opening them the number will be ported again.
Who ported my number cause definitely it was not me. Are there no procedures to do the porting?
I was told to go open a case at the police to get the details.
How safe are we with this porting ****???
