I phoned Vodacom at the beginning of August 2016 to change my contract (month-to-month) to prepaid to enable me to port to Cell C.
On 19 August went to Cell C to enter into a contract and port my number from Vodacom, to which they said it must be on Prepaid. I phone Vodacom and specifically ask if I can port my number immediately. The lady said I can, I ask for a reference number to which she said I can use her name as reference (available on request).
I went to Cell C and they ported my number, they said the port will take approximately 2 hours.
On Saturday 20 August nothing happened and I phoned Vodacom again, the person said I cannot port as the number is still on contract and I can only port on the end of the month. I told I would never have entered into a contract with Cell C if I was informed correctly. After a discussion he said I must switch of phone for 24 hours and when I switch it on it will be on prepaid.
When I switch it on still nothing happened. I phoned Vodacom again on Monday morning 22 August and after a long discussion with they refused to switch me to prepaid. I was about to go to Cell C to explain what happened, I noticed that my phoned lost signal. I went to Cell C and they did the porting. I switched off the phone for about 2 hours and when I switched on I was on the Cell C network.
I now experience the following:
1) I can RECEIVE calls and SMS’s from any mobile number, except Vodacom.
2) When my number is called from Vodacom you receive a message stating that "the number does not exist" (because the NUMBER, NOT the SIM has been deleted from Vodacom's network),
3) I can MAKE calls and sent SMS’s from my ported number to any network, no problems,
I contacted Cell C and they called their call centre which sent an email to Vodacom to release the number.
I even went to the Vodashop and they tried to call there call centre with excuse there system is off, when I returned they said that it is not there problem I must contact Cell C. I again contact Cell C and the again sent an email to Vodacom, normally fixed within 2 hours but it could take up to 48 hours.(24 August 2016)
On Friday 26 August I phoned Vodacom again and they said they can see the port is not complete and they put me through to the porting section. When I start to explain the lady did not let me finish and told me it is a Cell C problem she had an attitude and I struggle to explain my side, she keep saying Cell C must sent an email to PST and she will also sent an email, now it could take up to 72 hours (the call was almost an hour long).
Up to date Vodacom do not want to release my number. I have missed important meetings, calls and I cannot even do any of my internet banking, as I must confirm transactions on the ported number.
It is now a week that I am struggling. It seems that Vodacom knows they are losing clients and now frustrates us who have been loyal clients not to consider them in future again.
