Poor service from Vodacom South Africa

Hello Peter,

During November 2016, I received a call from one of Vodacom South Africa’s sales agents , I believe his name is Anwaarn. He informed me that, he is going to offer me a special package which is going to save me money. My sceptical response was, “how so?” He told me, I’ve been a loyal customer etc. – typical sob story …

This package was to have entailed a free, 3G, Wi-Fi router and a consolidation of all my data usage, in such way that it is going to cost me less than my current contract. At the time I had my smart phone and a 3G ****le under contract with them, so, saving on my contract sounded so good since we are trying to cut back on our expenses.

I was sceptical and asked for a confirmation that the conversation is being recorded and that it really will cost me less than at the moment and it was confirmed. So, I agreed to the offer under those terms.

The router was delivered a couple of days later by courier and this was the only time I have signed for anything.

When we checked the bank statements on, we found that we are being charged additionally for the 3G Wi-Fi router and are therefore paying more than we have been promised.

Fortunately I never used the router as I have had no reason to do so and to my mind, the SIM card has not even been activated.

We queried the matter with their franchise I Port Elizabeth and they suggested I phone Vodacom Direct. We were informed that since I have not used the data on the router’s SIM yet, that Vodacom must take the router back and reimburse us with the monies the deducted from our account.

I tried to phone Vodacom Direct but what a useless exercise that was. The first selection I made from the choices on their “electronic curtain” brought me to a person who told me I am at the wrong department and he gave me another number to select from the curtain. Again I was told I am at the wrong department … I put the phone down as it was no good for my blood pressure to continue.

The sad thing is, we have these marvellous technologies at our disposal but honest, one on one, human service has flown out of the window and I am stuck with something useless to me which is costing and have virtually no way of reaching the responsible person / persons, to put things right.

Best regards.

Pieter du Plessis.
