Poor Service costing me over R300 airtime

While I still had data Vodacom has been sending me promotion sms messages to get a 1gb for R69 which because my data was was less than 349MB which isn't close to running out. They've conveniently forgot to send me an sms once my data bundle had actually depleted (which they always do) and politely charged me over R300 in airtime because I was browsing without a data bundle. Was this because I had over R400 worth of airtime so they ******* me into getting it back.

Could a competent team member please explain this to me with a reasonable resolution as well.

Dear Client

We loaded R350 airtime on your number as a gesture. Please note that the notification service is not compulsory and it serves as a guideline. Please do not solely rely on the notification as it’s not a guaranteed service. To receive the data bundle notifications at an alternate cell number, you may send the following SMS from the SIM card of your data contract: “ALTNUM 0*********” (i.e. the cell number you want to send the data bundle notifications to) to 123. Please wait for the corresponding SMS which will confirm that the notifications to the alternate number were successfully activated.

The Self Help Channels are:

 • My Vodacom App - download from internet
 • - www.vodacom.co.za - register cellular number
 • Dial *111# and choose the option for Balances or purchases
 • SMS the letters MM to 31050 (zero rated) to obtain balance information
