Poor customer service for an arbitrary sms received

Sms received stating "device has now been configured for data settings. Please restart your device " , when I called Customer care they knew nothing of this sms and said it was not sent by Vodacom. With all the ***** and hacking we are experiencing - if this is a valid sms from Vodacom or their IT department - can the messages be a little cleared , so as a customer we are not afraid that a restart will negatively affect the phone , and that Customer care can at least assist when we call - thank you
