Phone under guarantee in for repairs... now its lost

I purchased a LG G4 Phone on contract from Vodacom, and its got a two year guarantee. After 18 months, the phone no longer works. It starts up, but there’s a problem with the CPU and therefor the start-up process doesn’t complete.

I took it to the Vodacom store where I took out the contract, and they send it for repairs. I never heard from them again, and when I returned after a month, they had the phone but it wasn’t repaired, because the technician claimed water damage. I showed the store manager how the phone can’t complete the start-up process, and he agreed this was a CPU and software related issue, and he suggested we send it back.

That was two months ago, and when I call them they say they don’t have the phone and promised to call me back, but never did.

I phoned the Vodacom Repair call centre ********** in Midrand on 11/08 at 11:25 and spoke with Jenny who suggested the same excuse of Water Damage, claiming the store manager doesn’t know what he’s talking about. She also claimed there was no senior personnel in her office to take this up with.

From my experience with Vodacom, it’s clear they use a standardised response “Water Damage” which they use to protect them from taking any responsibility.
My contract expired but I’m waiting for feedback from Vodacom before I renew the contract.
