Phone stopped charging under warranty - apparent "water damage"

<p>I bought a Samsung Galaxy A5 in December 2016. A few weeks ago I woke up, plugged in my phone but it wouldn't charge. I took it to Vodacom and it was sent in for repairs. I received notification that it would cost just over R4000 to fix as there is evidence of water damage and thus the warranty is void. The phone was working perfectly well, other than the fact that it would not charge.</p> <p> </p> <p>I can say with 100% cer*****y that there was no period in between when I bought the phone, to the day that it stopped working that it came into contact with a body of water. Taken from the Vodacom website <em>"ii. Liquid damage can be caused by: Actual water (dropping in water, holding the device against damp hair or skin), condensation, hand cream, perfume, excessive temperature changes, steam (kitchen, bathroom), perspiration (after exercise, warm day), mist cooling systems at restaurants, and many more."</em></p> <p> </p> <p>Bigegst cop out ever - liquid damage can basically be caused by anything in the entire world. There is absolutely no way that ANYONE can argue this because it already implies that there is no warranty on the phone because if your phone touches air it could break and Vodacom would not be liable.</p> <p> </p> <p>Please show me the proof that <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>I </strong></span>was the cause of the water damage? To me it seems like a standard excuse to not honour the warranty. If I had exposed it to water then I can understand and take the blame. This is not the case whatsoever, and I cannot accept this as an excuse. If the phone was so "water damaged" it would have been totally stuffed.</p> <p> </p>

Hi there,

I can't believe that Vodacom can have an excuse like "It's not in Vodacom's area of expertise to determine how the damage would influence the functionality of the handset, but it's visually possible to confirm that liquid damage did occur thus voids the warranty. "

How can you fix something if you don't have the expertise to determine the damage? Sounds like absolute *******.

Let's look at a few things here:

a) If you can not prove that the supposed water damage caused it to not charge, why not just fix the charging point then?? My phone was working fine despite this alleged water damage.

b) I am 100% certain that my phone did not come into contact with water - what happens if now after I handed my phone over one of the Vodacom employees caused the water damage in transit or at the workshop? Show me the evidence to the contrary please?

c) Please show me evidence of how bad this water damage is? I asked for the proof and all of the diagnostic evidence yesterday from the repair center but still don't have it.

I find it unacceptable that you can use this as an excuse. If I dropped my phone in the bath I can understand. But if you can use water damage as an excuse and water damage could constitute a drop of water then you are basically robbing me.

Please escalate this complaint. I'm not done here.

Regards

Mike
