Phone overheating: safety concern but technicians claim no fault found
Horrible customer service! I purchased an Honor 90 Lite on contract at the end of December 2023. It was an unfami**** brand to me but I was convinced in-store by Tumelo, the consultant that was assisting me that it was a good brand. When I started using it, I noticed that the device's temperature was high, it was warm and occasionally felt uncomfortable to the touch. Even sometimes when on a call, you could feel how warm it is on your ear. When I took it back to the store on 02 January 2024, within 7 days, they informed me it had to be assessed (JOB Number: ***0). I was phoned by Lindi on 15 January and first informed that it was rejected because the Buds did not accompany the device, whereas I had brought the Buds along with the device to the store, and the consultant, Angie, informed me that they only needed the phone for testing. I took the buds into the store the following day and it was taken in again, so I was informed, and I had to wait even longer to get the feedback. On 23 January, I was informed by Angie to come collect my device. To my surprise in all this, the technician reported that there was no fault on the device. This dismissive response is extremely unsatisfactory considering that the overheating issue persists. This is not my first cellphone and I know that the temperature on a phone is not supposed to be that high while in use! The issue not only poses a threat to the device's functionality and longevity but also raises serious concerns for my safety while using it. After they gave the device back to me, I was driving home and playing music on the device and I saw a message on the device that I needed to switch off all the apps as it was overheating, I didn't even have time to switch the music off before it gave another message that said that the device was too hot and I had to stop next to the road and switch the phone off immediately. This is completely unacceptable. I sometimes have to travel to see clients and use my phone for GPS locations, imagine if this happened while I was on the highway. It raises the risk of accidents or even the device exploding due to the temperature. This is something I would hold Vodacom solely responsible for as this is an issue that has been repeatedly raised and disregarded. Here I am, sitting again without a phone, that I am paying for I might add, because it had to be taken in again to Vodacom for them to assess the device for the THIRD TIME! ((JOB number: ***7). We are only in February and this device has not been with me for even three full months but it has been taken in THREE TIMES! Adding insult to injury, I discovered yesterday, on my third return visit that the second time when I brought in the Buds, the device was not reassessed as had been requested. This raises serious concerns about Vodacom's competency and customer service. If a customer willingly gives their device up for assessment, wouldn't that imply that there's an issue? This level of incompetence is astounding and frustrating. If Vodacom thinks so little of me as a customer, they can cancel my contract, keep their device, and I'll take my business elsewhere, where hopefully I'll be treated with the dignity and respect I deserve. I will not accept this device being handed back to me again. I will escalate this matter as far as I need to if it is not resolved satisfactorily.
