Phone Line converted to an open contract without consent and subsequently billed R 11 000 for 5 gigs of Data

I have been a vodacom customer since 2010; I took out a TopUp contract last year November 2015, with monthly payment of R 1 000 a month.

In September 2016 I received a call from Vodacom marketing, offering me extra data on a monthly basis, they said my monthly subscription would not change.

On 4 November 2016 I received notification that my phone was locked. I called Vodacom to find out what was going on, I was informed that I owe R 11 000. They said that my phone was converted into an open line and that I was being charged R 2 per mb (R 2 000 per gig).

I explained to them that I was not told that my number would be converted to an open line contract when the agent called me. I was also granted a credit limit of R 8 000, I was not informed about this, This was increased to R 11 000,, the amount was due to data used in October 2016, approximately 5 gigs. I received no notifications regarding data usage or that limits were exceedeed/ being increased.

I do not know how they assessed my affordabiity for R 8 000 credit limit and further increase to a R 11 000; I do not have that kind of money to spend on a phone bill.

They promised to investigate the matter and get back to me; but that did not happen, it has still not happened. I have spoken to over 5 people at Vodacom, from different departments and no one has given me any feedback in almost 4 weeks.

I did not have a working phone, for the whole month of November, which I use for business purposes.

While I am still awaiting feedback on the matter, my phone started working, and this is because Vodacom debited my bank account with R 11 000, without my consent or informing me, throughout this whle odeal I have never been informed about anything.

I am now in a position where I have a shortfall of R 11 000, I have expenses that I need to pay for and I do not have funds because of Vodacom.

The treatment I have received from Vodaocm has been the worst I have ever received; I took out a TopUp contract to avoid any problems with phone bills. I am very dissapointed and very upset about the chain of events that has led me to this point.

I want my money back, how am I supposed to pay for my living expenses?

Why would I agree to move to have a credit limit of R 8 000, when I normally pay R 1000 a month for my phone.

I was promised that the matter would be resolved, but things seem to just get worse!
