Payments due for cancelled unwanted gift

On the 17th of May 2016 I received an unsolicited call from Vodacom (or a Vodacom representative) trying to convince me to take their "gift" offer. I refused to accept the "gift" as it turned out that this is an "unwanted gift", however the person persisited with the call and trying to convince me to accept the "unwanted gift". Ultimately I gave in (I shouldv'e put the phone down on this person) and accepted the "unwanted gift" (a tablet).

Now, I would like to point out that these type of calls, where the consultant persist in trying to convince a client to take the "offer", is in fact harrassment according to the consumer protection act (“Consumer Protection Act, 2008; Part F; Right to fair and honest dealing; Unconscionable conduct; Section 40 ; paragraphs 1 and 2”).

The "unwanted gift" was couriered to me, I then had to pay for the "unwanted gift", so much for a gift then? I therefore called the call centre and declined the "unwatned gift". I also made arrangements for the "unwanted gift" to be returned. I was informed that it will be cancelled once the "unwatned gift" was received by Vodacom (or a representative) in the original packaging. This process took 37 days! Why? In the meantime I was liable for payments for something I never wanted in the first place.

I have two other Vodacom numbers (one of them for over 20 years). So my number was blocked due to outstanding payments on the "unwanted gift". I called and confirmed that both my existing numbers were in fact up to date w.r.t. payments, but the "unwatned gift" was in arrears (as I have cancelled it). I made numerous calls to various departments in Vodacom (not my duty, is it?) to have this issue resolved, but was send from pillar to post and nobody in Vodacom seem to be able to resolve this matter. I called regarding my blocked number, and all of a sudden it was unblocked again when I pointed out that payments for it were up to date. However, my data for which I also pay on this number is still not active (after the number was blocked).

I keep on getting calls reminding me that I am in arrears (for the "unwanted gift" that was cancelled (I have email proof from Vodacom that it was cancelled). Instead, I'm now taking the easy route and that is to cancell ALL my Vodacom contracts and move it elsewhere. I do not need this trouble and hassles. Vodacom should get their house in order and stop haraassing clients with onsolicited "gifts" which in fact turns out to be squeezing customer's hard earned cash from them.

I sincerely hope this can be resolved once and for all.
