Pathetic service and refusing to cancel my contract

14/02/2020 I spoke to a very rude call centre agent with regards to terminating my contract. Her name is Charmaine and when I asked for her surname and for a reference number, she hung up and I got redirected to the survey.

Now this isn’t the first time I had an unpleasant experience with Vodacom. My first unpleasant experience was when my iPhone 6 (contract phone) stopped working (factory fault) and upon taking it to Vodacom Lakeside, I was told that it would be fixed at no cost as it was under warranty. They took my phone in for diagnostics, this took close to two weeks, then all of a sudden I was told that it wasn’t under warranty and that I would have to pay to get it fixed. I escalated this matter and resorted to Hello Peter and it still wasn’t resolved. So I made peace with having to continue to pay for a device that wasn’t working for the next 6 months of the contract.

The contract ended end of November and in December when I saw the next statement I contacted Vodacom to cancel it. A coloured lady took the call and asked a million questions as to why I wanted to cancel. I told her I was very unhappy with the treatment received from Vodacom and that I wanted nothing to do with it. She tried to convince me not to cancel the contract (sounded desperate if you ask me), at this time I was annoyed and at work so I had to hang up.

So today I called because I noticed I had a bill of R500 and something. This didn’t seem right because I had previously called to cancel. Firstly when I got through to the consultant who said her name was Charmaine, I told her that I wanted to cancel my contract. She asked for the cell number in connection with the contract, I gave it to her and the first thing she asked is when last I paid my account, I relayed my story and the reason why it wasn’t paid to her and she says “YOH” (great going with the customer s****s and “good” phone etiquette. Now Vodacom, you pride yourself with being one of the leading cellular networks, yet you have consultants that have absolutely no telephone etiquette training (if you don’t believe me trace the call). I then tell her that I was called by agents who wanted me to upgrade and I told them I wanted to cancel and she started giving me attitude and telling me that I clearly didn’t read the terms of my contract because if I did, I’d know that my contract is 24 months and that thereafter that they charge crazy things that I didn’t sign up for.

Thank you Vodacom for reminding me how much of a pathetic company you are and that I’d rather drink poison than do business with you ever again.

Can the airtime bill be credited as I haven’t used the stupid sim since the last day of my contract and can you kindly cancel my contract as I want nothing to do with you!
