Pathetic customer service
Recently I noticed that I was being billed for a "content service" called Bitbop that I had never signed up for. This evening (31 August 2017) at 7pm, I went to Vodacom Customer Care in Canal Walk where I was given a waiting number (C11) at 7.03pm. After 30 minutes of waiting, I called for the manager (Nigel), who explained that there was only 1 customer service agent and 5 sales agents and customer service took longer. This explained why so many people arrived after me and had already been served and left! The manager blamed Vodacom for improper resourcing. I eventually spoke with Zuko about my billing problem. He started by blaming the "My Vodacom" service for often having incorrect information. Then he blamed me for possibly accepting the service. Then he blamed the phone software for being able to sign me up for a paid service without me knowing. I asked him to deal with the incorrect charge and he said that I had to wait until I was billed and they could only investigate after that. It seems ridiculous to wait for a problem to escalate before addressing it. Then I suggested I could stop payment at my bank but he quickly pointed out that this may affect my credit rating or some such thing. By this point I was quite annoyed, as I had been in the store for about 45 minutes. I asked if he could simply cancel the service and I was told he could not do that and I needed to email or call customer care. Remember this WAS a customer care consultant! Finally, I asked how I can ask to never be charged for a service I did not sign up for again (which seems obvious, but not to Vodacom), and again I was asked to send email. I left the store quite frustrated. Vodacom wasted about an hour of my time and did not resolve a single issue. I offered to bill Vodacom for wasting my time, but Zuko would not take responsibility for wasting my time either, while simultaneously suggesting I could come back. Outside the store, while still in the mall, I logged into "My Vodacom" and was able to cancel this content service myself. Some R250 lost and, quite frankly, I would rather cut my losses than go back to Vodacom customer care, who have just won my worse customer service ever award! If Vodacom is going to reply to this, please do not insult my intelligence by writing a standard reply that a customer service agent will be in touch. You have the full details here. You are welcome to show me that the least you can do is fix a bad situation.
