Paid in full but my account has been handed over to lawyers

I had paid off my debt in 2019 but did not receive my paid up letter. 2 months ago I got a message that my account has been handed over to the lawyers without being called over the years to notify me nor did I receive a paid up letter. This is now affecting my credit score. I asked for a follow up, yet to this day, this is being investigated?!
