Overcharged on Data Usage
I'm logging this complaint for a 2nd time as I haven't received any feedback from Vodacom, my account still hasn't been credited as promised for overcharging me on data usage for the previous month and their billing web site is still down after a week. In logging the same complaint for a 2nd time I am hoping to receive some communication now. After this experience I will be taking up a new contract with a company that offer's better service when my contract comes for renewal end of the year.
I have been a loyal customer with Vodacom for more than 6 years now, with my current contract I never spend more than R1 200 per a month. My account though was billed last month for R6 000 for the first time to my horror, most of that was deemed for out of bundle data charges. Last month my Telkom ADSL line was up and down for most of the month so I had to purchase data, an extra 2Gb if I remember correctly. I run my own business from home so having reliable internet I vital for my freelance business to operate efficiently. However I was careful to manage my 4G data package in order not to use too much data. So it came as shock when my account was billed and debited R6 000. I called the Vodacom call center and disputed the amount, they assigned the complaint to their technical department and I received an sms an hour later to say I that indeed used all that data but that as an act of goodwill they will reduce my data charge to R356. I still don't know how much data was used according to them. At that cost the amount of data used must claimed by Vodacom as being over 40GB. However this is impossible as we have 50GB Telkom cap and neither my myself nor my wife even use that full quota. So something clearly doesn't add up. Further to this I haven't been able to login into my Vodacom profile online to actually what I've been billed for as the site has been down since Friday so this is still a complete mystery to me. Further to this I need further clarity on what Vodacom means by reducing my data bill to R356. Vodacom also claim they are not responsible for data usage and it's entirely my fault so have in effect washed there hands of this matter. I find it very distasteful especially considering that SA has one of the highest costs of interner data in the world and I am a small business trying to operate in a tough economic environment with high data costs and unreliability. Not to mention the recent scandals on overcharging and miss data for both the major SA cellular providers. My contract is coming up for renewal in a month so am seriously considering moving to another provider that offers better service and data rates.
Thanks Regards Damon
