Overcharged on contract

My contract with Vodacom is just under R600 pm.

One month I had gone over my budget and asked them if their is a type of "cap" that I can apply to my account to prevent me from having a huge bill.

They told me about the "call limit" feature which if set will prevent me from exceeding a certain amount of usage on my contract. (If that wasn't the case, then they failed to explain it properly and it wasn't the solution to what I was looking for.)

The best is that the call limit worked well every month after, I get a notification that I am about to reach my R50.00 limit, then when I reach it my service gets locked, (Can't use mobile data, make calls, etc.) which I am fine with as it doesn't cost more than I can afford.

In October I got the notification that I was about to reach my call limit. I thought I was on WiFi instead of data, and when I looked again my bill was sitting on a data charge of R1,428.70. (Why did my call limit not activate?)

The best part is, I called Vodacom to see if they can help me to resolve this before the debit order runs. Their response is that they can't do anything to assist me until I get the invoice, which I only get when the debit order runs... I was advised to contact them again after though and see if I can get assistance.

I called them after the debit order ran, and their response is that the "call limit" is a voluntary limit and gives me the choice to exceed it and that there is a "mandatory limit" of R2,000.00 (which can not be changed by the way). So it's not their problem basically because it's in their T&C's.

Why have a call limit that works as I expect it should, then the next month it doesn't have an effect?

Basically what it comes down to is that your call limit is just a setting for an SMS notification and doesn't actually limit anything, when they decide that it doesn't, but other times it doest...

My primary complaint is that with my first call, the solution they offered to me was not the correct one according to their T&C's, and it works inconsistently. The attitude of "it's not our problem" is not satisfactory.

#VodacomMustFall
