Over-billing by Vodacom

On 26 June 2019, I upgraded my contract and got a new phone with the Vodacom store in Stellenbosch (Eikastad Mall). On 19 July 2019, insurance was activated on the device with my prepaid number linked to the insurance.

At the end of August, Vodacom deducted an insurance premium (R221.74 - vat excl.) for the month of August as well as a pro-rata amount (R92.99 - vat excl.) for July. At the same time Finrite deducted an amount of R561 for insurance premium. The Finrite amount does not appear on the Vodacom invoice/statement. So in total, almost a thousand rand was debited in my account for device insurance that was supposed to cost me R255 per month.

I went to the store (Eikastad Mall, Stellenbosch) to report the issue. At the store I was given contradicting and unsatisfactory information explanations as to why these amounts were deducted from my account. In the first instance, I was told that the Vodacom bill/invoice is correct and that Finrite had no right to debit my account. And I must take up the issue with Finrite. On another occasion, I was told that Vodacom was wrong in debiting my account and that it should be Finrite who debits. Yet, the was no clear explanation for the amount that Finrite debited. I was told that they debited pro-rata for July, premium for August and as well as premiums for September in advance.

I've visited the store on numerous occasions trying to resolve the situation but no luck. So I reversed the amount debited by Finrite as well as the amount debited by Vodacom. After doing this I went to the store to inform them that I had reversed the payments and to request an updated and correct invoice so that I could pay the correct amount. Till today, no one can issue me with a correct invoice so that I can pay my account. At the store yesterday I was told to pay the incorrect amount and wait for Vodacom to resolve the error and then credit my account at a later stage. This is utter nonsense. The Vodacom assistants agree that I was over-billed but still want me to adhere and pay an incorrect amount.
