Over a month of no internet.
A month ago our home was struck by lightning, blowing our vodacom (home) business router. We reported it and I will admit that whenever speaking to the service, the staff is symapthetic and helpful. However, they obviously cannot solve this particular issue and dispatched a tech team. The first of two teams arrived, an hour early- surely a good omen. Alas I was mistaken, they did not have the correct equiptment to test our connection and needed to borrow my personal laptop. Then their lan adaption was faulty and they could accurately test anything. However, they sat in their car for another hour or so, awaiting for further instructions from Vodacom. During this time, they also asked to borrow a phone charger. I was unimpressed. The next day, the second team arrived, completely unannounced. They said that the previous team was unable to complete the assessment accurately, which was in contrast to what the previous team had told me. So a new router is needed. We are to be sent an email, confirming the price update. We waited for about two days before deciding to call and ask about the email with our router quote. We went from department to department, even referred back to the inital tech, who never responded or answered the call. Eventually after no less than four hours of calls over two days, they determine that emails sent to any gmail account holders are not being delivered. This is almost a week after reporting the inital problem. So we provided them with an alternative email address. The quote was signed and the incorrect information that Vodacom had on our profile was asked to be changed. They had pulled an email address and home address from thin air. How the tech team made it to the house TWICE is a genuine mystery. We hear nothing from the team for a full week, despite sending daily emails. We eventually got a response from someone once we said that we would be looking into finding a new ISP. They said that they would call. They did and a new router was dispatched. They tried to deliver it to the incorrect address that Vodacom had generated for us. We were then accused of "not updating" our details with Vodacom, depsite our details never having changed and notifying them at the beginning of the increasingly lenthening email chain that they had the wrong address. Almost a full week later a they tried again and were unsuccessful AGAIN. They eventually used the correct address on the third attempt and actually calling to confirm directions. We had been without internet for a full month before the new router was eventually delivered. They claimed you could just plug it in and it would work. I have completely lost faith in anything going our way when it came to the internet and I was proven correct. The router did not provide internet when it was plugged in. After a further few phonecalls with the tech team, they determined that this is a hands on job and a team was dispatched to our address. They were once again sent to the incorrect address and were over an hour later than promised. They left our home after19;30 in the evening... not having fixed the problem because the previous routers user system had not been deleted and the new router being synced to our account. By my estimate, they have had, at minimum two weeks, if not a month to do this. Why is there anything linked to an innactive router?? Any ways, they promised that by 8am the appropriate admin team will ahve done what was needed and we would once again have internet.
We did not... But! The team is on it and I will soon receive feedback.
