Outrage at Vodacom Chatz
Vodacom Chatz - Greenstone Mall
So a few weeks ago I went to the Vodacom Chatz store in Greenstone Mall because I wanted to get a contract phone. When I arrived, I was helped fairly quickly, to my surprise, but that's where my good fortune ends. Vodacom's system went down as soon as I'd finished filling out the paperwork so I said I'd be back and went window shopping for a bit. Upon my return, everything was running smoothly again and I was ready to get a new phone! So, Sylvia, a consultant, said that she was going to ask me a few security questions to which I obliged. After what seemed like an interrogation, she asked what phone I have now so I told her and she asked to see it. She took it out of my hand and asked me to unlock it, to which I obliged, again. She then promptly exclaimed that she needed to fetch a pen and took my phone with her to another room and closed the door. I didn't think much of it at first, until I realised there was a pen on the desk right next to her! Slightly suspicious, I asked another Vodacom Chatz employee where she had gone and why she took my phone with her. This employee stared at me expressionless and then walked away. I then proceeded to ask another employee for an explanation as to where my phone was. He said that Sylvia had it and she would be out in a second. I said that's not good enough and that Sylvia can continue doing whatever she was doing after she brought back my phone. He then went back to Sylvia behind a half closed door and a swiftly followed him ONLY TO FIND HER SITTING AT A TABLE, READING MY SMS'S! I was outraged and Sylvia was shocked that I'd caught her out.
Can some please explain why a cellphone store consultant would need to go through my SMS's (and who knows what else) behind closed doors and without telling me about it?
I am disgusted at the invasion of my privacy!
