Online upgrade - poor courier service VS In store Upgrade- Upfront fee,
My Vodacom upgrade process has been a nightmare. I was due for an upgrade and was at first very impressed that this could be done online and the device delivered to your doorstep. I however was not informed that a third party could not receive the device on my behalf. On the first day of delivery, I got a notification to say the driver is on-route but no specific time was provided on when the delivery would happen. I was then not informed when he arrived at the delivery address nor did he contact me to inform me that he could not do third party delivery (I had pre-arranged with the third party and left all the necessary documentation with this person). On the second day of delivery, I was not notified that the driver was on route, he claims to have arrived but everyone at the office stated no one arrived, I was again not contacted upon arrival and a failed delivery was noted on the tracking profile. I then proceeded to call Vodacom to enquire why there was a failed delivery when nobody arrived and they then realised that they gave the driver the wrong contact details to reach me. The third delivery attempt, was the same as the second day, with the driver claiming to arrive but there was a no show and no notification to say the driver was on route and now that he should have had the correct number to reach me, I was again not contacted to inform me that he has arrived, on this day I waited at the office for him to avoid the third-party delivery. I then called the Vodacom call centre to enquire if there was any other way to receive this device, I was prepared to pick it up from any store when the call centre agent advised me that the best thing to do would be to go in-store to upgrade my contract as the delivery process was unreliable (Vodacom agent advising me on their courier service). I then attempted to get the device upgraded face to face at the store as I have done numerous times over the years, only to find out that you have to pay the device off (upfront payment fee) if I wish to upgrade in-store and the only way to avoid this would be to do an upgrade online and hope the courier service is better than the last time. I have now upgraded online and arranged for a third party delivery, I tried to arrange for an online upgrade and to pick up the device in-store, to avoid the delivery process (as I am a travelling the****** and not onsite to pick up the delivery at any time during the day) I hoped Vodacom could arrange something to assist me as I travel for work, and again was unsuccessful as their process does not accommodate people who travel for work.
I am quite disappointed that the only two options for an upgrade are: 1. Online upgrade and to depend on the terrible courier service- I would rather do the online upgrade and go pick up in store. 2. In-store upgrade, but to pay off the device immediately.
