Online Pre-order is a ****, no stock but can now submit a normal order

I pre-ordered the new iPhone online with a new contract, I received an SMS stating that there is no stock. Today the site is accepting normal orders (with next day delivery, if the info on their website is to be trusted) How can a normal order take preference over a pre-order?
