Number porting (Sim Swap) on new contract

I went to Vodacom Waterfront store on Monday 20 July top open a new contract. I specifically asked that I keep my current number and was informed that it will be done. I had to follow up numerous times to determine the progress of my application and it was approved on Wednesday 22 July and I went in to the store to finalize all the details. I again asked that I keep my number and was informed that it would be done.

The sim was activated on Friday 24 July and lo and behold, I now have a new number. It is not what I asked for!!! I phoned the call centre and was informed that they can't do the sim swap, I have to go to a store to have it done. I went to Vodacom shop in Canal Walk, stood in line for 15 minutes, only to be informed that I have to go to the same store where I opened the account. Surely the call centre person could have told me that!!

It seems to me that everyone is just passing the buck and no one wants to take responsibility and help me sort out this problem. I mean, seriously, how hard can it be. And if it is not possible to have my old number, why was I informed otherwise??

Come on Vodacom. Take some responsibility and sort this out. Please!!!
