Not happy switching to Vodacom

8th of MAY 2016 (Sunday)

I have decided to change my cellular network from MTN to VODACOM and definitely one of the worst decisions I have ever made!

I went to the Vodacom shop in the East Rand Mall where I was assisted by a consultant by the name of Joey. After completing all forms and provided all documents needed and the new contract signed I was informed by the consultant that I would have to wait 48 hours before I could use my phone as they need to port the phone from one network to the other which was acceptable for me. I had to make payment of R105.00 to keep my MTN number which I did.

9th of MAY 2016 (Monday)

Phone not activated on Vodacom yet. I phoned the Vodacom store again just to ask the same consultant what happens to my airtime and data that I have on the phone from MTN, do they transfer this to my new contract? She told me no I will forfeit all my data and airtime, but if I want to use it, I can, and then just phone her and tell her when to port my phone. I then told her that I will phone her on Wednesday the 11th of MAY 2016 which I did.

(It’s now ONE after I got the phone)

10 MAY 2016 (Tuesday)

I used all data and airtime left on MTN on my old phone

(Take note TWO days later).

11th of MAY 2016 (Wednesday)

I phoned the same consultant Wednesday morning, requesting her to port my number to Vodacom. The consultant informed me that I must check later today (Wednesday the 11th of MAY 2016) or early tomorrow morning (the 12th of MAY 2016) as it does take a while. The consultant phoned me later the very same day ****h of MAY 2016) to inform me that she can not port my number, as the sim card they have given me the Sunday (the 8th of MAY 2016) is faulty and I must come to the store to fetch a new sim card. I told het that I work in Pretoria and I get home after 6pm every day, and that by then the store will be closed. I did however inform her that I will collect the new sim card the following day, Thursday the 12th of May as I am attending a funeral in Alberton in the mid-morning and would go there after the funeral to pick up the sim card, and she said its fine

(Take note THREE days later).

12th of MAY 2016 (Thursday)

I attended the funeral and then went and picked up the new sim card around 3pm. The consultant once again informed me that my phoned will be ported later that evening.

(Take note FOUR days later)

13th of MAY 2016 (Friday)

Phone now activated. Finally I can start using my new phone but because I am working I cannot sit and figure out everything on my phone at work. When I got home that Friday afternoon, I only then started working with my phone, transferring phone numbers over, and then realized that my identity caller is not active but the store is closed already and I decided to call in the morning regarding this matter

(Take note FIVE days later)- TO ME THIS IS DAY ONE as it was not my fault that VODACOM gave me a faulty sim card from the beginning.

14th of MAY 2016 (Sa****ay)

I have phoned the store and asked to speak to the consultant that has helped me all along and was informed that she was not in, but the consultant that answered the call will assist me. I explained about my identity caller and she assisted me in activating my identity caller. After I finished the call, I attempted to start downloading applications onto my phone, with no success. I got hold of my son and asked him to assist me, as I am not all that clued up with the technology. But as he is working, he could only assist me the next day.

(Take note SIX days later)- TO ME THIS IS DAY TWO

15th of MAY 2016 (Sunday)

My son assisted with NO LUCK, the phone is not downloading anything. After numerous attempts, my son tried connecting my phone to his phone’s wifi, and finally was able to download some apps (this costs him money now).

(Take note SEVEN days later). TO ME THIS IS DAY THREE

16th of MAY 2016 (Monday)

Trying to set up my email and it’s not working.

(Take note EIGHT days later)- TO ME THIS IS DAY FOUR

17th of MAY 2016 (Tuesday)

Again having to call my son in for assistance, he also tried setting up my e-mail with no success. Seeing as it was already late in the evening (he came after work), he said that he will check the internet to see if he can find a solution.

(Take note NINE days later)- TO ME THIS IS DAY FIVE

18th of MAY 2016 (Wednesday)

On this day, my son again came to assist after work. He found a step by step guide on the internet of how to set up an e-mail account, but yet that is exactly what he tried in the first place. He then downloaded a 3rd party email app, just so that I can receive my e-mails until I take the phone back to Vodacom.

(Take note TEN days later)- TO ME THIS IS DAY SIX

19th of MAY 2016 (Thursday)

I called and complained about my phone not working properly, and I was advised to bring the phone into the store. Please take note that I work in Pretoria and work until 5pm every day, I cannot get to the store before 6pm closing time.

(Take note ELEVEN days later)- TO ME THIS IS DAY SEVEN.

20th of MAY 2016 (Friday)

Took my phone in, explaining what all was wrong with it. EXCESSIVE DATE USAGE – EMAIL APPLICATION NOT WORKING – CANNOT DOWNLOAD ANY APPS - a specialist from Samsung, Donavon, assisted me. He said that he needs to activate the LTE, as this was never activated as it should have been in the first place. He then asked another consultant to activate the LTE. He also said that he needs to change some settings as I complained that the phone is using excessive data. After all the time spend in the shop he informed me that I need to bring the phone back tomorrow (Sa****ay the 21st of MAY 2016) and leave it there for 3 to 4 hours because the problem with my e-mail is software related and they will need to reload the software.

(Take note TWELVE days later)- TO ME THIS IS DAY EIGHT

21st of MAY 2016 (Sa****ay)

Went back to the store and left the phone for them to attend to the problem. Back to the store at 1.00pm to pick up the phone. Donavon informed me that he re-loaded the software and the phone is fine now. I asked him what the problem was but he said he did not know why the phoned did this. I spoke to the consultant that I have been dealing with from the start and told her that I am extremely unhappy about a brand new phone that they had to reload the software and requested that they give me a new phone on which she rep**** the seven days are over and I will have to keep the phone. I said to her it was not my fault that the phone was not working properly and nor my fault that they gave me a faulty sim card from the start and the LTE service not activated, but she said sorry mam, if the technician can’t find the problem today you will have to bring your phone in and they will have to send it in for repairs. A brand new phone, in for repairs?

(Take note THIRTEEN days later)- TO ME THIS IS DAY NINE

22nd of MAY 2016 (Sunday)

Phone still not working properly. Downloading apps now, but emails not fixed.

(Take note FOURTEEN days later)- TO ME THIS IS DAY TEN

23rd Of MAY 2016 (Monday)

E-mail application still not working. I phoned and spoke to Donovan, asking why is my email not working properly after I had left the phone with Vodacom and he claimed that the software was re-loaded. He said that the HUAWEI G8 phone’s e-mail application is not compatible with MWEB’s email addresses and I have to go through GMAIL. He also said that I should Google a setting regarding the fact that emails don’t clear from my phone when I have downloaded all emails on my laptop.

(Take note days later) TO ME THIS IS DAY ELEVEN

I feel like this is UNECEPTABLE and very bad service. First of all, I have never heard of a phone that isn’t compatible with mweb e-mail addresses. I have a friend who owns a G7 and I tested my mweb account on her phone, it worked. I have used my mweb account on various phones over the years including Samsung and Apple. So I took the liberty to consult a Mweb helpdesk consultant, and this was the reply I got:

That does not sound correct to me. I have not heard of any mobile phones that blocks access to setup certain email addresses. It sounds to me as if the default mail app on the phone (or the phone itself is faulty).

I would like to see proof that my phone is not faulty, I would like Vodacom to load ANY COMPATIBLE e-mail on my built-in email app.
