No replacement of damaged phone

Sent my Alcatel Bold touch phone for repairs in mid December, the phone which I bought in August for R1500.After my phone had been at Vodacom for 3 weeks without me getting any feedback I eventually went in to the shop and I was told my phone will be replaced with a new handset.10 days passed after this without getting feedback , I again went to the shop only to be told Alcatel has stopped making the phone I would have to chose a phone that is the same amount, I then chose the Samsung J1.
I was then told I need to pay in R200 for the J1 as it is a different model from the Alcatel now my question is this, Why should I pay in R200 for a different model phone, is it my fault that Alcatel has stopped making this phone? Why are we not told as consumers of this R200 when we buy the handsets?
The warranty of the phones says 24 Months, now which means I would have bought my phone for R1700
I am very unhappy about this as I believe this is false advertising saying the phone is under warranty for 24 months but when it comes to replacing the handset I get this treatment.
