I purchased a Smart Kicka 3, which is Vodacom device that is network locked for 12 months. The labelling on the box reads: Once activated, this device will only work with a Vodacom SIM card for 12 months. After this period, you can contact 082 135 for an unlock code which will enable you to use it for other networks. The problem that i have is that i bought the phone for an in-law who lives in Zimbabwe, and there is no Vodacom Network in Zimbabwe. So because the phone is network locked, it cannot be used for 12 months by the in-law as Vodacom is refusing to give me an unlock code. The label reads that i can contact them for an unlock code after 12 months, but it doesn't say that i cannot receive it before this period is over. The fact that the device can only use a Vodacom SIM for 12 months, Vodacom would at least need to ensure that you will have access to their coverage for 12 months wherever you are as this condition is very much limiting. Otherwise the labeling must specify that you can only use a Vodacom SIM for 12 months in countries with Vodacom Network, and it must continue to list those countries so that you may be aware of all of your limitations should you purchase the device. I was not aware that there is no Vodacom network in Zimbabwe.
