Negative Marketing -contravention of the Consumer Protection Act
Once again Vodacom have embarked on a negative marketing campaign. An SMS sent 28 February stating "an enhancement to clip and contract cover for R 15 pm. To opt-out SMS CONCOVOFF". Once again this is negative marketing that goes against right 5 of the Consumer Protection Act. I was assured that this would not happen again after my complaint (ref number ***) to the consumer protection ombudsman last year.

14 Mar 2022, 19:53Hi thanks for the response but it is not good enough. I have not received notification that this cover is no longer going ahead. Is this just a proverbial "knee - jerk reaction"? I have the email from last year apologising profusely for the error of your ways last year and promising it would not happen again. My first point of contact to raise this issue was with the sender of that mail Nandipha Bosch and I have received no response.

15 Mar 2022, 08:20In terms of your private response stating that you have done away with the cover and campaign, I HAVE JUST RECEIVED ANOTHER SMS STATING
Hi and thank you for choosing SA's leading network. From 1 April 2022 we are enhancing the value you get by combining CLIP and Contract Cover, for a total of R15pm. To opt out, SMS CONCOVOFF to 31050. T&Cs apply. Further together, Vodacom

15 Mar 2022, 17:47What a joke, I have just received this SMS Hi. We won't be enhancing your value-added services with Contract Cover, as previously communicated. There will be no changes or extra charges - you will keep your existing CLIP service (caller ID) as normal. For any queries, call 082 135. Further together, Vodacom.
So have you sent this to all your customers and publically communicated this on your website, in the media etc? Or is this just to appease me? I am continuing with my formal based on the fact that this is the second time you have used negative marketing and you totally disregarded my concerns raised last year.

31 Aug 2024, 10:17I have received a number of calls from your agents the last one saying that they don't have a copy of the terms and conditions that the policy summary refers to so can't send me anything further. She then proceeded to tell me the cover is for 12 months and i asked once again, where does that information come from as it is not in the summary document i keep getting sent. I have absolutely no terms of reference for this policy, the conditions of cover, what happens after the 12 months etc. I want full details of this policy, mot continuous calls with agents that cannot provide me with the details i am asking for. This issue has wasted so much of my time, it is completely unnecessary. If you had followed the correct procedure in the first place i.e. informing me of this policy in detail, providing me with proper policy documents which included the terms and conditions and asking me thereafter if i wanted to take it this wouldn't be the issue it has become!
