Nasty surprise

I travelled through Swaziland with my phone switched off except for a very short period where it was switched on to retrieve information. I had no signal according to the handset. I have arrived back in SA to receive a message telling me I have used R2000 of roaming data. I am unable to contact Vodacom by any means (as usual). I demand an explanation for this as I have an idea it is a "marketing ploy ". If so, it is in EXTREMELY poor taste. If not, I would like to be shown how I can run up a huge bill in some matter of minutes with nothing to show.
