My iPhone 16 Pro Was Left Uninsured – Vodacom’s Ongoing Negligence
I am disgusted by Vodacom’s ongoing incompetence and total disregard for its paying customers.
Over a month ago, I was forced to upgrade to an iPhone 16 Pro — through Vodacom itself, after my iPhone 15 Pro was ******. Today, I got a random call from Vodacom Insurance asking if I’d like to switch my insurance from the old device to the new one. Only now? After more than 30 days? Well, clearly I never considered keeping the insurance on a phone that was ****** right?
This confirms that despite having all my details, neither the Vodacom shop at the V&A Waterfront nor Vodacom Insurance bothered to process the switch. Which means I’ve been unknowingly walking around with an uninsured phone for an entire month. This is not just bad service — it’s TOTAL & UTTER negligence.
Let’s not forget: Vodacom is very clear when it comes to taking your money at the end of the month. That part works like clockwork. But when it comes to actually delivering the service they’re overcharging you for, they fall apart.
This also isn’t my first issue with them. When I was forced to upgrade, I submitted a complaint — and Vodacom conveniently closed it without resolving anything. I was forced to upgrade because the excess was over R 6000, and there was a charge for the so-called “betterment” of the phone (R 5000). This started a ping pong game between the contract department and the insurance department with no clarity. And now this. The message was clearly "WHO GIVES A DAM..JUST PAY US AND RESOLVE YOUR OWN ISSUES, WE DON'T CARE"
To make matters worse, today’s call from Vodacom Insurance came during working hours, disrupting my day. I repeatedly asked to end the call as I was with clients, but the agent insisted I listen to a long legal disclaimer and give verbal consent. Since when is a voice recording more valid than a signed document? I requested a copy of that recording — and surprise, it’s nowhere to be found.
Frankly, I don’t believe this complaint will change anything — because, as always, Vodacom treats every case with the same wishy-washy attitude, ticking boxes and closing cases without real accountability. But there are ways and means to get to the bottom of this mess — and to expose the deeper pattern of incompetence and disregard that so many customers are experiencing.
Vodacom, your system is broken. Your customer service is nonexistent. You leave your clients uncovered and vulnerable — and then quietly walk away like nothing happened.
I’m tired of writing complaints. Tired of following up. Tired of having to do your job for you. This is unacceptable, and the public deserves to know how little you value your clients once you’ve taken their money.
Once again, I expect a closed case with nothing achieved because Vodacom simply does not care who pays their shares and their salaries.
I am hereby asking once again for ONLY written communication, but once again I will receive a telephone call with a **** apology, proof that these complaints neither get read nor understood!
