MTN and Vodacom Tower Generator noise pollution

Disturbing the peace with noise and diesel fumes pollution at the MTN tower site: T4888 & Vodacom site BS: 4961 (Wonderboom Primary) I am writing this letter on behalf of the residents in Vander Linde Street, Annlin Pretoria living in the vicinity of the MTN and Vodacom tower situated on Wonderboom Primary School sports fields. This complaint has been a long time coming and we have had enough now as this is becoming a regular occurrence. There seems to be a trend as there are lots of previous complaints on the same topic on internet. The last straw was yesterday morning 17th August Vodacom parked a generator on site at 08H00 and left it running the whole day. These generators make an excessive amount of noise, when there is no power failure in the area. When I called the MTN number 011/*** to log a complaint at around 17H00 I was told this will be attended to shortly. At 21H30 when called again out of desperation the call centre gent asked me why I waited so long before complaining again and that it will be attended to than the next day. I managed to get a get a number of a Vodacom technician and after calling him nonstop and leaving him messages till he eventually answered his phone, he agreed to have it switched off. This brings me to the question “why was it necessary for the generator to be on if he can just come and switch it of no problem”? Clearly this is deliberate and or these suppliers just have no regard for residents. When this happens we are not able to sleep or breathe properly as all windows has to be closed as a result of these generators constant droning and diesel smell. How do we proceed in resolving this - Please can someone advise. I will place the above on record for the following companies: Vodacom, MTN and we would appreciate a reply without the standard BS and corporate jargon from the above on how they intend to swiftly resolve this unacceptable situation and prevent it from re-occurrence. Regards Peter Horn
