Monthly Recurring Mobile Data Rip-off

For the last several months I've had a My Meg 500 Month-to-Month data option at R149pm on my mobile Smart S contract. I recently noticed on the Vodacom website that the current cost for a 500MB recurring data option is R99, although my current bill still shows R149.

On further investigation at the local Vodacom shop, the consultant informed me that the 500MB at the lower cost is a different product, and that I'm still paying for the \old\" 500MB product. According to the consultant, the new cost has been in effect for a few months already. Also according to the consultant, there is no communication method to inform the customer of these option/pricing changes. Obviously I immediately changed to the new data option.

From this information, it would seem that I would have paid the higher price indefinitely while the current cost continues to fall. Instead of just adjusting the cost of the current \"product\", Vodacom creates a \"new product\" and continues to charge the cost of the \"old product\". The new product conveniently does not supersede the old one and of course Vodacom is the only party benefiting from this.

Call this technicality what you like, I call it ****************!"
