Misleading vodacom online upgrade

When my "Uchoose flexi" vodacom upgrade was due, I opted to upgrade online because it offered "... FREE next day delivery, FREE sim and connection - save R290..." and because of the convenience.

Upgrading online was relatively easy. I received my "Upgrade order confirmation email" almost immediately.

The email opened with, quote:

"... Your order has been placed successfully!
PLEASE NOTE:

Our RAM agents will request to see your ID book, Smart ID card orvalid passport used the order before they deliver the device.
Your device will be delivered on a weekday between 8 am and 5 pm, depending on delivery address and location.
Your order details

Order Number: VODACOMONLIN- ********** ********** 63..."

I attempted to track my device on the vodacom site under "Track your status" using my order number. The result was "Waybill not found".

I called 082111, after being transferred I was told that the primary contract holder had to call in. I didn't argue as I knew that is the process but I questioned as to why I was able to process the upgrade online.

Although unable to disclose any account details, the agent informed me that my upgrade wasn't processed as it needed to be confirmed telephonically. I then got a call from vodacom as instructed by the main contract holder. I confirm my new device of choice and had to confirm the delivery address. Online it showed there is online stock available of the device i wanted, on the call i was told if there is no stock they will call me back in 10 minutes to inform me. When I asked if I can now track my delivery with the same order number on the initial upgrade confirmation email, I was told no a new number will be generated. The application I completed online wasn't in fact my upgrade application, it was completed so a outbound agent can call me and process my request.

The option to upgrade online is completely misleading.

I'm not actually completing my upgrade online.

It wasn't actually a upgrade confirmation email I recieved.

It's not a valid order number given to me via email.

And my order was not "placed successfully".

I'm yet to see if the "next day delivery" offer is true.
