Misleading contract package offer
On upgrading a contract phone and looking to optimise the contract package on 17 February, we determined that the Smart XS+ contract, advertised as "New" from December 2017 was the best mix of data, voice and sms - especially that Vodacom had app**** "shrinkflation" to the existing Smart S package by reducing the data bundle from 250MB to 200MB. Having seen the package advertised in a number of brochures, both Vodacom stores, 4U stores and other retailers, this seemed a doddle. However, when arriving at a Vodacom store to do the upgrade we were told that this package did not exist - the person in the store did not even seem to know about it at all. We took the Smart S package then, reluctantly - and when we got home, checked our sources, including the Vodacom website, and the Smart XS+ package was all there, including a DionWired brochure dated from 8-21 February. On following up through various channels, we got mixed messages as to whether the Smart XS+ contract was available or not; the DionWired feedback was that their Head Office was having a battle with Vodacom over this particular offer. Finally we were referred to an internal Vodacom "Trade Partner Bulletin 18-018" which stated that "Smart + Packages will not be available for Feb & March", and the expiry date of the Vodacom 4U brochure we had seen was 6 February. As Vodacom customers and user of mobile contracts from the very beginning in this country, I would not expect that something in the form of a phone and contract package, which has a minimum duration of 24 months, is advertised as "New" in December, is then surreptitiously cancelled in February. We would expect pricing and add-on sweeteners to change at short intervals, but not a long-term contract package design. Whilst Vodacom has the right to offer and discontinue offers as they choose, we feel quite cheated and irritated that they have been deceptive in the way this particular offer/package was communicated. At the very least we should be able to have access to the contract package as it was offered, given that we have been loyal customers of Vodacom since the inception of cell phones. In addition, the Vodacom website executive committee page reads - " Vodacom is committed to the very highest standards of business integrity, ethics and professionalism" This has not been our experience with our recent dealings with Vodacom and we are still awaiting a response from Mohammed Joosab. Perhaps Vodacom is happy to relinquish customers?
