Loyal Vodacom customer of 20+ years penalised for trying to downgrade under Debt Review
I have been a Vodacom customer for over 20 years and I am extremely disappointed by how I am being treated.
When I went under Debt Review, my Vodacom account was not included in the debt review process. Despite this, I am being blocked from downgrading my existing contract purely because my profile reflects that I am under debt review.
I am currently on a VIP 50GB package costing over R2,600 per month. I requested a downgrade to a much more affordable package of approximately R1,100 per month, not to avoid payment, but to free up funds so that I can pay off my debts faster and more responsibly.
This request was declined solely due to my debt review status.
I find this completely unreasonable and counter-productive. I am not asking for additional credit, upgrades, or special treatment — I am asking to reduce my monthly commitment so that I can remain a paying, sustainable customer.
Punishing loyal customers who are actively trying to improve their financial situation sends the wrong message. After more than two decades of loyalty, I expected understanding and flexibility — not rigid systems that ignore common sense.
I would appreciate Vodacom reconsidering this decision and allowing me to downgrade my contract to a more affordable package. I am disappointed that I had to escalate this to a public platform. Loyalty clearly counts for very little when customers are trying to do the responsible thing.
