Loss of Service during WC Garden Route Fires

I wish to express my anger at the fact that Vodacom service to our area has been seriously interrupted, on rare occasions sporadic but for 95% of the time, non-existent. We live on a farm in the Barrington in the Western Cape – an area right in the middle of the fires that are still raging. And we have no communication!

Our farm is approximately 2.5 kms SE of Karatara which is 12.3 kms NNE of Sedgefield. All of the farmers in the Barrington/Roodekraal/Elandskraal area who are Vodacom subscribers have confirmed that they also have no connection.

When I called the customer support yesterday, I was told there is full coverage. But when we try to dial out, we get a message that reads “Not registered on network” and no reception at all.

A second call to the customer support from a VOIP phone (all Telkom lines have burned down) and no-one can tell me what the problem is – only that it will be investigated over the next 3 to 7 days. That’s if we are still here!

I have been a subscriber for over 25 years but now I will change service providers.

Alan Holton
