Listed as defaulter by Vodacom without ever being informed

Maybe posting here will get me somewhere.

So by chance I find out there is a default against my credit record from Vodacom while I was in my third year or working overseas. I have no record of this Vodacom account and received no emails from Vodacom (which I did receive for another account with Vodacom, so they have the necessary contact details). I was never contacted by Vodacom before being listed as a defaulter with the Credit Bureau as per the legal requirement.

So I go the customer care 135 route, get transferred to accounts (who can't find anything related to the reference number), get told to contact Vodacom Legal at ********** which is an automated service. This service tells me it has been handed over to a debt collecting agency, and they will sms the contact details to the cellphone number I provide. I have done this twice now and no sms was received, and I have no way of contacting an ACTUAL person at Vodacom Legal so now I am stuck...

Ok, the sheer ridiculousness of this astounds me... So I get this email for Vodacom: "Good day Cobus van Jaarsveldt On behalf of Vodacom, kindly accept our sincere apology for the manner in which your enquiry was dealt with and for any inconvenience caused. To best assist & advise you kindly contact Vodacom's Legal Division on the following number ********** (tollfree from a Vodacom sim). Alternately you can forward an email to ********** Thank you & regards Consumer Website Team " DID YOU MISS THE PART IN MY ORIGINAL POST WHERE I DETAILED MY EXPERIENCE WITH VODACOM LEGAL??? This is what I said: "get told to contact Vodacom Legal at ********** which is an automated service. This service tells me it has been handed over to a debt collecting agency, and they will sms the contact details to the cellphone number I provide. I have done this twice now and no sms was received, and I have no way of contacting an ACTUAL person at Vodacom Legal so now I am stuck..." I tried AGAIN yesterday, and STILL no SMS.

Vodacom, you are the absolute WORST company to deal with. TWO WEEKS of trying and I still have no ****** clue why I supposedly owe you for an mobile account that expired in 2015, and was mysteriously revived by Vodacom in 2016/04, with debits going of my SA account (I was working overseas since 2014 up to mid 2017) up to August 2016 and then somehow the debits stopped (even though there was plenty of money in my account to ***** for you, I’ve drawn the statements for you to verify) yet the outstanding amount accrued until I was handed over to debt collectors (without my knowledge) and listed as a defaulter (AGAIN without my knowledge). Yet Vodacom was able to contact me on another account LINKED to this one on email, but not on this issue… I have called Vodacom Collections, Cancellation, Legal and Accounts several times over the last two weeks, put on hold, transferred, cut off (3 ****** times after being on the phone for more than 15 minutes!!!), left on hold for 18 minutes (I ended the call eventually because not coming back to me after being on hold for that long is just RIDICULOUS) and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING came from it. No one can tell me anything about this account other than the amount I supposedly owe (now over R2 200). Today I found out that the number was deleted by Vodacom in December 2017, and basically all associated records were trashed. So Vodacom says I owe them, but they can’t give me anything as to why. Well done Vodacom, well done (sarcasm). I have been a customer since the 1990s, but you will never get another cent from me again. You managed to make Telkom look good…
