Like a ***** in the night, Vodacom

In January of this year I decided to port my Vodacom contract number (where I was since 2004) that expired in Aug 2016 and had been running month-to-month, to MTN because of their FriYay deal. Due to many failings and faults at MTN my number was only ported in March.

At the end of June I noticed that Vodacom was still deducting money from my account! I called and they said that because I didn't contact them myself to cancel the contract they had given my a "dummy number"/"pseudo number". I argued that part of the port process to MTN must be cancellation, as I obviously don't want to make use of their service anymore , but they said that I had to call and cancel myself. I asked them to please cancel it and the gentleman said its done -****- but that I would not be refunded for the 3 months of extra deductions as per my request.

On July 6th I went into the local Vodashop as this was not sitting well with me, the owner of the shop was outraged when he heard what had happened and said he would try and help me resolve it. He said we first need to make sure it's cancelled, but when he called they were offline (!). I went back later and cancelled it telephonically REF I - ********** 4568 and also requested that I get refunded. The lady was very firm in telling me that I would not be refunded because I didn't cancel my contract and that the "ghost number" would roll on month-to-month as long as I didn't. The reason I told her I should be refunded were:

1. I ported my expired contract and was sure it was part of the process (we ported my wife's the previous year from Cell C without any such problems)

2. When my number got ported Vodacom sent me messages to inform me of the process, but never once did it include "If you would not like to continue your month-to-month you have to cancel it yourself"

3. I was never informed about the "dummy number"/"pseudo number"/"ghost number"

4. I never received a simcard for this number, thus none of the mins, data, sms was ever used

5. (and this one is the smoking gun) I NEVER RECEIVED A BILL/STATEMENT for this number!

The above mentioned makes me feel like I'm being ****** from - if you cant even send me a statement how am I supposed to know about this?!?! After all of this at the end of July (guess what) I was deducted from again, but this time you're not getting away with it.

Thank you very much for my refund.

W
