LIES TO INDUCE ENTERING INTO CONTRACT

THIS POST IS OBO MY FATHER: On 28 October 2017 my father went in to Vodacom at Garden Route Mall, George to enquire about an upgrade of his then existing Vodacom cell phone contract. He was assisted by one Janine Williams. My father did not take new device, but simply wanted to explore whether it would be viable to move from his then existing “top up” package to another package. When he enquired about whether the amount of R1,290.00 that he has accumulated on his account will be transferred to his new contract (Smart Top Up+), if he took a new contract, Ms Williams answered yes. Needless to say, Ms Williams did not follow through on her word and the accumulated amount was not transferred. When my father went back to discuss the matter with Ms Williams on 04 November 2017 and specifically to enquire as to why the accumulated amount has not yet been transferred to his account, she said she did not lie to him on the previous date as she did not know the answer at the time when she told him that the accumulated amount would be transferred. Ms Williams’ conduct induced my father into entering into a new contract, when he was more than willing to rather see out his then existing contract and move onto “pay-as-go” as he in any event did not take a new device. How can someone like Ms Williams, who clearly does not know the product she is selling, be allowed to be client facing?! My father wants to cancel the new contract without any penalty as he would not have concluded a new contract but for Ms Williams’ gross misrepresentation and he also wants the accumulated amount transferred to his account without delay.

And still waiting for the phantom consultant to call... This just goes to show that Vodacom will employ ************ tactics to get people to enter into contracts and then simply "*****" the airtime they have accumulated. This is simply unacceptable and surely my father is not the only victim of this type of conduct by Vodacom.

Thanks Moddy. This matter was indeed resolved, due to your prompt action since getting involved this week. It is refreshing to know there are still people like you who care about customer service and actually phones back when you have promised to do so in order to follow up. I sincerely hope 1) that you will also address the matter with Ms Williams as people like her cannot be allowed to be customer facing and 2) that there are no other people in the same boat as my dad was a result of Ms Williams' conduct.
