Just try and get a call recording after they ***** you over… just try…

You know that little speech they give you about your rights to have access to the phone call recording and how there are laws against tying you up in a contract that you do not agree with? Well Vodacom does not give a flying feather about either of those 2 things and they know that if they ignore you for long enough, you will just let it go, because no normal South African has the finances to take a massive company like them to court. Let me explain…

I have been a customer with Vodacom for a long time. I have a data contract as well as a cell phone contract that I use as my primary number. On the 31st of May 2021, I contacted their cancelation department to cancel my data contract. As it goes, the lady at the cancelations department was extremely friendly, and she informed me that I was unable to cancel due to the contract period that had not yet expire and that I would have to pat a cancelation fee. I can understand that, and I accepted thar I would still need to pay monthly until the contract expired.

She then offered me a reduced fee on my data contract and also offered me an adjustment to my primary line. Before I accepted the adjustment I specifically asked her if this is an upgrade because I did NOT want to upgrade as I would need a new phone soon because my current phone at the time was giving me issues. She assured me that this was NOT an upgrade and that I would still be able to upgrade when I was due, which was supposed to be around August 2021. At the beginning of this year, I realised that I would have to get a new phone as mine started to give me issues. So I contacted them again wanting to confirm that I would be able to upgrade..: SURPRISE!!!! I can only upgrade in August 2023 because that WAS in fact a upgrade where only my package was adjusted.

This is where my absolute frustration started!! After numerous calls to their contact centre, countless emails, visits to stores and even trying to get some luck through the Whatsapp line, I stills have my old phone, unable to upgrade and currently struggling to do my work due to my phone being on its last legs!!!

They ****! They cheated! They continuously ***** me over every single day by me not being able to do my daily duties!! They just make it impossible for us to stand up for our rights. If I had the money I would take the legal route or even better…. just pay the cancelation fee and go somewhere else!

How much more do we as the consumers need to take? How many times are we going to allow them to just wash their hands? I have no option but to wait and pray that my phone holds out, but come August 2023, I am out! I just cant wait to make that phone call to inform these contract breakers and *****!
