INTERNAL ***** AT VODACOM

Good day Wendy

My name is Aneesa, and I am an ardent supporter of your talks on Radio 702. I am writing this email to you, to express my dissatisfaction that I had encountered this week, with a company that is sub-contracted to a leading Cellular Network Operator in this country.

I am currently on a Vodacom contract and on Thursday 14th November at 11:10am I received a call from a sales representative within the tele-marketing/ sales company namely Vodacom Rewards Company (subcontracted to Vodacom).

Being unfami**** with the number, I had answered the call and the sales representative from the above mentioned company upon introducing himself did not ask me if this was an appropriate time to talk and went on about the sale. I immediately stopped him and asked him to contact me after 3pm. I was contacted again by the same number at 4;32pm of which I did not entertain the conversation and hung up.

Without my consent being given, this sales operator went ahead and signed me up for a 20gig data contract via an online application. (He had all my details infront of him as sales companies such as this one receives all its client's information directly from Vodacom). Please note that I DID NOT consent to this application nor did I give the sales representative any inclination that I was interested in taking out the contract. (Audio recording of this call can be tracked from the company itself). Subsequently, the evening of 14th November at 17:42pm and 15th November at 15:05pm, I received sms's from Vodacom stating that I will be receiving my package (data contract) via a courier company with a viable tracking number.

The above sms's alerted me as a I am fully aware that I did not consent to any such contract/online application.

I immediately approached the Vodacom shop nearest to my location and asked one of the sales representatives to assist me. Upon checking on their system, it reflected that the sales representative from Vodacom Rewards Company did an online application on my existing contract and added me to another contract. This is without my knowledge and consent!

I was given the Vodacom Rewards Company Toll Free number to contact in attempt to cancel this now "new contract". I had made numerous attempts to contact this toll free number of which to date I have been unsuccessful at getting through.

To my knowledge, I believe that this goes against my rights as a Civilian of this country, in terms of the Consumer Protection Act as well as the Consumer Protection Law of this country.

I am deeply disgusted and disappointed by this occurrence and I feel that my rights as a consumer in this country and the protection of personal information by companies such as Vodacom have been violated.

Any advise/ suggestion from you, on resolving this matter would be greatly appreciated and would assist me, and would prevent others as well who may have been duped into the same situation.

Looking forward to hearing from you Aneesa

I can be contacted via email or on *** for more information
