INSURANCE NEVER ACTIVATED

I entered into a contract with Vodacom in January 2015, for the provision of a mobile device (Samsung S500) and additional products, and also took out insurance on the device should my device be lost or ****** that I will be covered up to the amount of R8000, I had the device for about a month when it got ****** in a popular club in Cape Town, I blacklisted the device and also made a case at the Bellville police station shortly after, when I submitted my claim I was notified by cellsure that my device is not covered, I went to the Cape Gate branch where I entered into my contract and spoke to a consultant who was very uniformed and told me that I can only claim after three months from activation, nevertheless three months later I found out that my insurance on my device was never activated, I approached Verna Lingeveldt from the CRM Department in Tygervally Shopping Centre who informed me that cellsure won't replace my device since it was never activated, and they are unwilling to backdate the premium, how is the me the consumers mistake? and why should I suffer for someone else's incompetance? Certainly considering asking CELL C to buy me out of all my contracts with vodacom.
