Insulted

After years of a *****ulent debt review on my name I was finally able to have it removed and I can get on with my life again.

I app**** for a contract with Vodacom and I urgently - beyond urgent actually - needed a new phone as the only phone I have was a second-hand donation to replace a ****** phone. The current device I'm using can barely function it's so old and it cannot update. It's literally failing. I was approved for a contract with 1.2GBs of data per month and a top-up and I requested to use my existing prepaid number to be used on the contract as notifying every single one of the hundreds of contacts on my phone book as well as all of the business and financial institutions I deal with was just unrealistic.

And so I waited for the order. And waited. And waited.

I even did a move from one apartment to another without a working phone - nearly impossible task - and I still waited for 3 weeks for the phone to be delivered.

Finally it arrived and it came with two sim cards. I contacted Vodacom and found out that not only did they not give me the contract that was promised to me when opening the contract, but they did not keep my existing number. Customer care informed me that there was nothing they could do, and here is the insult - my only option was to return the phone, cancel the contract and try again.

Immediately I thought of the anguish of obligation to use my current brick of a device, if and when it decides to work, as well as the endless waiting for a new device. I've logged a cancellation on the contract and I've logged a return on the new phone - I'm broken.

There is no word yet as to how long it will take to restart this process and I have no idea if I even want to continue with Vodacom at this point.

Insulting. I was really looking forward to having a contract and a new device. After the years of fighting to reach this point I'm gutted that I now have to return the new device I was literally just holding moments ago.

I haven't received any reference numbers or contact details from the people I spoke to regarding my complaint, only verbal communication over the phone. When I attempted to use Vodacom's bot, Tobi to find complaint resources, I was told my number was blocked from the Vodacom call centre. Abysmal.

"Vodacom’s reply04 Jan 2024 at 08:40Dear Customer,

Thank you for the time and effort taken to voice your dissatisfaction to our office. It is with the cooperation and feedback from valued clients such as yourself that we are able to identify any areas of improvement within our organisation.

Our records indicate that you were in contact with our after sales team. Based on the feedback provided, our team assisted and logged the collection request for you. Kindly look out for a call from our delivery partner to arrange collection of the device. As advised, our team will be able to cancel the contract, once the device is collected and booked in at our warehouse.

We apologize for the inconvenience and the service experienced.

Regards,

Vodacom Consumer Website Team"
As per Vodacom's reply here - Their team provided me with no follow-up contact details, just a collection reference number, and no peace of mind. I don't want to return anything, I just want my exisiting number that I've been using for a decade to be used on this contract - why is this an impossible task for one of the biggest service providers in the world? You offered me more WEEKS of waiting for the matter to be resolved, explicitly after I said last year when I ordered the phone that I need a new device as a matter of urgency. Your reply here is indifferent and nonchalant - you do no care. I feel that you do not want to resolve the matter and that you are not interested. Your customer service line has blocked me from complaining and therefore is not interested.
