Incorrect sale made at the expense of a customer
I would like to cancel my contract with Vodacom or request that changes be made to that contract. I took a contract on 7 January 2023 at Cellucity in Hemingways. When I got home after taking up the contract I realised that I would have paid 3 times the cash price of the phone at the end of the contract after 36 months.
I did not want a 36 month contract & wanted the nova 9 se but the consultant (Mr Lunga Xozwa) said that the period & the type of phone were chosen by the system for me. I got the Oppo A57. When I got home I received a text about the 20gb top up package.
The system was "generous" enough to offer me 20gb & top up package which I told the consultant I don't want because I have wifi at home & enough minutes on my prepaid sim card. I thought that I would get 50min, 50sms & 50gb as stated on the catalogue.
With this contract I would have paid over R15000.00 whereas the cash price is R5500.00. The system is working against me because of my 'profile'. If no changes can be made, I would rather cancel the contract & laybye the phone over 3 months.
On Sunday the 8th I went to Lunga asking to cancel & he said I should come back the following day to speak with Merrie the supervisor. On Monday morming on the 9th I went to the store at 9:30 to request to cancel the contract if the additional things I did not want would be removed.
She did not think that my reason for cancelling was valid & I had signed a contract. Today I went to the store as I had not received any feedback this week. She said that my request was declined & she was going to escalate the matter to the regional office.
I am afraid that the cooling off period will be up next week because the delay as there is no record on the system for a cancellation.
I know that sales are scarce in January but I refuse to suffer because someone wants to earn commission at my expense. A customer should be offered what she/he needs not what the consultant wants to sell.
I was asked if I did not want a Vivo? Why would I want a product that the benefits/features have been explained to me?
